Do you know what to do during an earthquake? If you visit an
earthquake zone in the near future, you’ll need to be prepared. Here are some
tips how to protect ourselves during earthquake.
Initially, when it
happen when an earthquake starts you must stay calm. If you’re indoors, first
you may hear the noise of an earthquake before the building starts shaking. If you
are in a house, you’ll have time to get out. But if you’re in an apartment
building, you’ll probably be safer if you stay where you are. If you are
indoors in a crowded area, you have to know that crowing will cause more
accident so don’t run to a near exit. Everyone will be doing that. If the building
starts shaking, get under heavy furniture, such as a table of behind a sofa. If there
isn’t any furniture, sit next to a wall. If the wall falls, it may create a
space, and you can hide there. Some people think you’ll be safe if you stand in
a doorway. This is not true! Don’t stand or sit near a windows, either. You may
be seriously injured if the window breaks. And watch out for tall shelves, items may fall and
injure you too.
If you’re
outdoors, if you’re in a car, stop and stay in the car. You’ll be safer if you
don’t get out and try to run. If you aren’t in a car, don’t go into a building.
And don’t stand near power lines. You could be electrocuted if they fall. When you
are in the village, you’ll be safer if you can get to higher ground, but remember
that earthquake can also cause avalanches of snow or earth on a mountain. If you’re
near a river, remember there could be a flood after earthquake. Also, if you’re
near a volcano, you should get as far away as you can. Earthquake can often
start volcanic eruptions.
Finally, indoors
or outdoors, if you have a cell phone and you’re injured call the emergency
services. They need to know where you are! And be prepare for aftershocks. Do not
return into building or rooms.
